Where Does Mizithra Cheese Originiate From?
Mizithra Cheese originates from the Greek Island of Crete.
Mizithra (Mi-zee-thra) is a traditional Greek whey cheese that has been enjoyed in Greece for thousands of years.
Mizithra Cheese is a comb of milk and whey derived from sheep's milk.
The mixtures of milk hail from the regions of Macedonia, Thrace, Thessalia, Sterea Hellas, Peloponissos, Ionian islands, Aegean island, and Crete island.
This light and airy Greek cheese is easy to cook with and makes delicious, buttery pasta.
How To Make This Easy Greek Italian Recipe
All you need for this easy pasta recipe is linguini or spaghetti, a ¾-pound of Mizithra cheese, and 1-cup of melted browned butter.
Cook the pasta according to package directions.
Brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Browned butter is simply melting the butter at a higher temperature.
Toss pasta with the shredded Mizithra Cheese and browned butter and combine.
Mizithra Cheese Spaghetti tastes wonderful for leftovers. Store leftover Mizithra Cheese pasta in a glass, airtight container for up to two days.
Note: This pasta dish does not freeze well.
Simply reheat and enjoy!

MIZITHRA BROWNED BUTTER PASTA
Ingredients
- 1 lb linguini
- 1 c melted butter
- ¾ lbs Mizithra Cheese
Instructions
- Cook the linguine according to package directions until Al Dente
- Melt the butter until it is slightly browned
- Pour the melted butter over the cooked pasta
- Pour the shredded Mizithra Cheese over the pasta
- Toss everything until the cheese and butter is combined into the pasta.
