LOVE SWEET CREAM? ME TOO!
Vanilla Sweet Cream Hot Chocolate is the drink for Valentine’s Day.
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m having a major obsession with the sweet cream from Starbucks. So much so, that a manager at my local bucks told me they were unable to make me my favorite drinking moving forward, but one call to the DM and that got resolved real quick.
My drink of choice from Starbucks ( a place I frequent daily) is an Americano with steamed sweet cream and 2-pumps of Irish Cream.
Normally, I’m not a huge fan of sweetness in my coffee, but that Irish Cream is simply dreamy. I do plan on creating an Irish Cream coffee recipe here soon, more on that coming in February.
VALENTINE’S DAY IS ALMOST HERE
Valentine’s Day is nearly two weeks away! Last year, I had a lot of Valentine’s Day recipes leading up to the big day and this year is similar. We start this year off with my Vanilla Sweet Cream Hot Chocolate.
You guys, it’s super delicious and creamy and perfect to share with your sweetheart. I love chocolaty hot chocolate.
My Vanilla Sweet Cream Hot Chocolate is made with cacao powder, honey, vanilla, and heavy cream. I also topped this delicious drink with whip cream and Valentine’s Day sprinkles because tis’ the seaon!
THAT COFFEESHOP HAS NOTHING ON US
Making your own sweet cream at home is super easy. All you need is heavy cream and vanilla syrup. Torani makes a lovely vanilla syrup option.
Steam the heavy cream and add 2-4 pumps of vanilla syrup, depending on how sweet you want the sweet cream to be.
There are tons of versions of homemade sweet cream on the internet, but I like to keep things simple around here.
Some versions use milk, heavy cream, water, and vanilla syrup, but I find that version to be watered down which I’m not a huge fan of. I find using vanilla syrup and heavy cream works much better.
THE GRUESOME HISTORY OF VALENTINE’S DAY. YES, IT’S REAL.
Are you excited about Valentine’s Day? I know a lot of people think it’s just a way for greeting card companies to make loads of money on one day of the year, but actually, it’s not.
There is a rich history behind Valentine’s Day. It’s not the most joyous history either. According to the Roman’s they celebrated the feast of Lupercalia From Feb. 13 to 15.
The men sacrificed a goat and a dog, then whipped women with the hides of the animals they had just slain. This next part gets even worse.
According to Roman tradition, Young women would actually line up for the men to hit them as they believed this would make them fertile. Then a matchmaking lottery would take place, where the young men would draw the names of women from a jar.
The matches would then be paired together for the duration of the festival or for life! Another tale is that Emperor Claudius II executed two men that were both named Valentine on Feb. 14 of different years in the 3rd century A.D.
This then became the celebration of Valentine’s Day set by the Catholic Church. So, if you thought that Valentine’s Day was simply all about the cards and chocolate, it’s actually not.
I love learning all of the histories behind Valentine’s Day and I find it really interesting. How do you celebrate this joyous occasion of love?
