Equipment

  • 1 Dutch Oven (optional)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 quarter cup pumpkin puree
  • 2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup Whipped Cream
  • 1 cup Mini Marshmallows
  • star anise (optional)

Instructions

  • Prep your pumpkin by washing it clean and towel drying. Slice off the top of the pumpkin. Then, scoop out the seeds and innards of the pumpkin until it's hallowed out. Set aside. ( I used a Baby Bear Pumpkin for this recipe )
  • In a Dutch oven or small saucepan whisk add the milk, cream, chocolate chips, and vanilla extract, together over medium heat until chocolate chips are melted and hot chocolate is smooth, 3 to 5 minutes. Add in the pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice and stir until fully incorporated.
  • Pour the prepared pumpkin spice hot chocolate mix into the hollowed-out pumpkin, top with whipped cream, mini marshmallows, nutmeg, and more pumpkin spice. Top with star anise. (optional)
  • This maks 2 full servings of hot chocolate, double the recipe for 4 servings.

🍫 Substitutions for Easy Spiced Pumpkin Hot Chocolate

  • Love hot chocolate but want to mix it up a bit? Add in white chocolate instead of semi-sweet chocolate chips for a delicious white hot chocolate that's pumpkin-spiced!
  • Not a fan of whole milk? Use oat milk or almond milk instead.
  • Drizzle caramel sauce on top for a decadent drink.
  • Want a super luxurious drink? You can also make this recipe in a slow cooker for a drinking chocolate or an Instant pot if that's more your jam.
