How to Make Halloween Rice Krispies Treats

These easy, no-bake Halloween Rice Krispies Treats come together in a few simple steps. Follow these instructions to make delicious, gooey candy corn marshmallow treats that are perfect for Halloween parties and fall celebrations.

Chopped orange, yellow, and white candy corn on a cutting board for homemade Halloween Rice Krispies Treats.
    1. Step 1: Chop the Candy Corn Using a sharp knife, carefully chop the candy corn into smaller pieces. Set the chopped candy corn aside while you prepare the marshmallow mixture.
Melting unsalted butter in a large skillet over low heat to make homemade Halloween Rice Krispies Treats.
    1. Step 2: Melt the Butter Add one stick of unsalted butter to a large saucepan or skillet over low heat. Stir occasionally until the butter melts completely, making sure it doesn’t brown or burn.
Jumbo marshmallows, candy corn marshmallows, and chopped candy corn melting with butter in a saucepan until smooth, gooey, and lava-like for Halloween Rice Krispies Treats.
    1. Step 3: Melt the Marshmallows and Candy Corn Add the jumbo marshmallows, candy corn marshmallows, and chopped candy corn to the melted butter. Stir continuously over low heat until the marshmallows melt and the ingredients form a thick, gooey, orange marshmallow mixture.
Melted candy corn marshmallow mixture poured over crispy rice cereal in a large mixing bowl to make gooey Halloween Rice Krispies Treats.
    1. Step 4: Combine with the Rice Krispies Cereal Place the plain Rice Krispies cereal in a large mixing bowl. Carefully pour the warm, melted marshmallow mixture over the crispy rice cereal. Using a spatula, gently fold everything together until the cereal is evenly coated.
Candy corn Rice Krispies mixture transferred into a prepared baking dish, ready to be pressed into an even layer for Halloween treats.
    1. Step 5: Prepare the Baking Dish Lightly grease a rectangular baking dish with coconut oil or nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking. Transfer the candy corn Rice Krispies mixture into the prepared dish.
Using a spatula to gently press the candy corn Rice Krispies mixture into an even layer in a prepared baking dish for homemade Halloween treats.
    1. Step 6: Press the Mixture into the Pan Using a lightly greased spatula, gently press the Rice Krispies mixture into an even layer. Avoid pressing too firmly, as this can make the finished treats hard instead of soft and chewy

Step 7: Decorate with Halloween Candy

While the mixture is still slightly warm and sticky, decorate the top with additional candy corn, colorful Halloween sprinkles, and adorable ghost-shaped candies. Gently press the decorations into the surface so they stay in place.

Finished candy corn Rice Krispies Treats sliced into squares and topped with Halloween sprinkles, candy corn, and ghost candies, ready to serve.

Step 8: Cool, Slice, and Serve

Allow the Halloween Rice Krispies Treats to cool at room temperature for approximately 30 minutes, or until set. Slice into squares and serve these festive, no-bake Halloween treats at your next spooky celebration!

👻 Pro Tip: Keep Your Rice Krispies Treats Soft and Gooey!

Melt the butter, marshmallows, and chopped candy corn over low heat, stirring gently until smooth. Avoid overheating the marshmallow mixture, which can make your Halloween Rice Krispies Treats hard and chewy.

When transferring the mixture to your baking dish, lightly grease your spatula and gently press the treats into an even layer without packing them down too tightly.

    👻 Storage and Make-Ahead Tips

    • 🍬 Keep Them Soft: Place parchment paper between layers to prevent sticking. Avoid refrigerating the treats, as the cold can make them firm and less chewy.
    • 👻 Make-Ahead Tips: Prepare these easy Halloween treats the day before your party. Keep them covered until you’re ready to slice and serve.
    • 🎃 Room Temperature Storage: Store the treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days to keep them soft, gooey, and fresh.
    • 🧊 Freezing Instructions: Wrap individual Rice Krispies Treats tightly in plastic wrap and place them in a freezer-safe airtight container or freezer bag. Freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw at room temperature for 30–60 minutes before serving.

Can I make Halloween Rice Krispies Treats ahead of time?

Yes! These no-bake Halloween treats are perfect for preparing a day in advance. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature until you’re ready to serve.

Why are my Rice Krispies Treats hard?

Overheating the marshmallows or pressing the cereal mixture too firmly into the baking dish can make Rice Krispies Treats hard. Melt the marshmallows over low heat and gently press the mixture into the pan for soft, chewy results.

Can I use regular marshmallows instead of candy corn marshmallows?

Yes! You can substitute regular marshmallows for the candy corn marshmallows if you can’t find the seasonal variety. The treats still turn out delicious, although they won’t have quite the same candy corn flavor.
