Need an easy one-pot meal that you can make in less than thirty minutes? I’ve got you set with my Easy One-Pot American Goulash. My version of American Goulash is made in a Dutch Oven on the stovetop. This American Goulash is made with fresh veggies, organic ground sirloin, sharp cheddar cheese and macaroni pasta. It doesn’t get any easier than this, so Pin this recipe for later and make my One-Pot American Goulash for dinner tonight!
I’m sure you’ve all heard of Hamburger Helper, but have you heard of Hungarian Goulash? Goulash hails from Hungary and is known as a stew dish that has meat and vegetables seasoned with spices. The American version is similar to what we call Hamburger Helper. Some people also call is hamburger mac-and-cheese, but it’s technically called American Goulash. Plus, my version is way healthier than any Hamburger Helper out there.
My version is made with fresh veggies, organic ground sirloin, sharp cheddar cheese, fresh tomato sauce. The other bonus to my version is that it’s all made in one pot. This is one of the easiest weeknight meals you could make and you could even use veggies in your crisper drawer that needs to used up. I used fresh onion, tomatoes and bell peppers in mine, but you could also use celery, carrots, and zucchini if you really wanted to beef up the veggie factor.
Shane loves this easy weeknight meal because it can be made quickly. All I have to is add all of the ingredients to my Dutch Oven and let the sauce for 15-minutes and then add the macaroni. It’s truly that easy. While the macaroni is cooking, you need to stir the sauce every few minutes to keep the pasta from sticking to the bottom of the pan, but that’s it. This is one easy meal you’ll want to repeat weekly! The other great thing about American Goulash is that it tastes amazing as leftovers the next day. I love noshing on it for lunch the next day because keeping the Goulash in the fridge in the Dutch Oven overnight really helps the flavors meld together. It’s similar to beef stew, the longer the flavors have time to sit together, the better they taste.
Do you guys enjoy one-pot meals? They are actually some of my favorites to post on the blog. I love how easy they are and how they don’t require a ton of clean up. I also love that you can use up veggies on their last legs and not be wasteful. I have a lot more one-pot recipes hitting the blog this fall and winter so stay tuned!
Remember how I said I had already started decorating for Christmas and that I was going to put my tree last weekend? Well, my friend actually talked me out of it, and now we are going to put our tree up the day after Thanksgiving. We have some other exciting news to share here too! No, it’s not what you think. Well not yet anyways. 😉 But we are planning a trip to Joshua Tree National Park over Thanksgiving week! Shane unexpectedly decided to use up his vacation so we are heading to SoCal and I’m so pumped because you guys know I’ve been gushing about going to Joshua Tree for over two years now!
There is a funny story behind this actually. We tried to go to Joshua Tree a few years ago when we decided to go on an impromptu birthday trip to LA. Well, we drove through 29-Palms, but could never actually find Joshua Tree. It was the strangest and most bizarre drive. And it was nearing night time and getting dark so we decided to turn around. But ever since I got a taste, I’ve wanted to go back. Hopefully will make that trip happen next week because it would be super epic to go.
Do you guys have big plans for the upcoming holiday week? Can you believe Thanksgiving is next Thursday? Speaking of that, I really need to reserve my turkey soon….
Happy cooking!
