Ever get a hankering for creamy caramel sauce, but don't love the sugar crash later? Yup. Me too. I love caramel sauce and you can drizzle it on just about anything from apple slices to pancakes to even pasta. (Hey, don't knock it until you try it.) Tis the season for all of the yummy desserts about to be made and this creamy caramel sauce is such addition to cookies, brownies, pies, you name it. This stuff is yummy on just about everything!
Many of the store-bought caramel sauces contain stuff your body does not need and some are all too complicated to pronounce and are bad for you. Here are some ingredients that can be found in most traditional store-bought caramel sauces: Soy Lecithin, Corn Syrup, Maltodextrin just to name a few. Many caramel sauces also contain copious amounts of refined sugar that will inevitably give you an awful sugar crash later. Let's look at some of the cons of consuming too much refined sugar. Sugar causes your pancreas to overwork itself causing your adrenals to overwork which can then cause your body to go haywire.
Some of the symptoms of consuming to much sugar is an increased heat in the body, excessive sweating, tiredness, and a dry and itchy scalp. This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what eating too much-refined sugar can do to your body so will leave it at that for now. It's best to consume sugar in small amounts and when you do get that sweet-tooth craving coming on, there are many ways to eat sweet stuff without the ugly crash later.
I love a good, creamy caramel sauce on coconut ice cream, homemade banana bread, on apple slices, and in a yummy, buttery pasta. My recipe is super easy to make and only contains 6 good for your body ingredients that are more than likely already stocked in your panty. This caramel sauce should keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks so go make a big batch and enjoy the carmelly goodness that's about to ensue. Your taste buds and your brain will thank you for it!
