My easy, creamy, delicious, Healthy Pumpkin Pie Smoothie is literally like drinking pumpkin pie in a cup! It's chalk full of fiber, protein, and is great post workout or when you want something sweet, but want to keep things healthy. Indulge in my Healthy Pumpkin Pie Smoothie!
We are officially in the middle of September and all things pumpkin all the time are at every store and in every grocery aisle. I recently showed the pumpkin explosion on my IG stories that are currently hitting Trader Joe's. Isn't it awesome?! Every time I go in there now there is something new and pumpkin hitting the shelves and you guys know I go to Trader Joe's 4-5 times per week. It's basically my second home!
Yesterday, I got a message from a reader asking me to create a Healthy Pumpkin Pie Smoothie and since I'm obsessed with pumpkin and I adore smoothies, I happily obliged! This smoothie is super creamy, super delicious, and super pumpkiny. Pumpkiny? Is that a word? Sure. It is now. Back to the smoothie: This smoothie is made with Greek yogurt and heavy cream. If you are dairy-free simply swap out the yogurt and heavy cream with almond milk. You could also use cashew milk too if you prefer. The smoothie may not be as creamy without a yogurt component, but it will still taste just as delicious.
This pumpkin pie smoothie is also made with blackstrap molasses which you should be able to find at your local grocery store. I love molasses for its high natural iron content and I love the taste! In fact, I have a molasses bread recipe hitting the blog this month that is sure to be a crowd pleaser!
This smoothie also has fresh turmeric and ginger which are both wonderful anti-inflammatories. You guys know how much I love ginger and turmeric, I add them to my coffee daily for their amazing health benefits. I've added cashews to this smoothie for an even more creamy texture and I've found they do not overpower the pumpkin flavor at all. I love consuming cashews because they are chalk full of healthy fats and are an easy protein source.
You will need fresh organic pumpkin puree for this recipe or if you have time and are brave, feel free to carve a pumpkin and use the puree from that. If you are short on time like I am, use organic pumpkin puree. Make sure to buy organic when purchasing pumpkin puree. While it's not necessarily because pumpkin must be organic (the vegetable is covered by its shell so purchasing the organic version is not 100% necessary, BUT the non-organic versions usually have additives and preservatives in them. Ewwwww....we don't need those, we just need straight pumpkin!
I also used cardamom and pumpkin spice in this recipe, because I like a lot of spice in my pumpkin pie smoothies! Cardamom has been proven to be high in antioxidants, as well as be a wonderful soothing aid for digestion.
I hope you guys enjoy this Healthy Pumpkin Pie Smoothie recipe and don't forget that if you make my recipes, please tag me in your recipes on Instagram using the hashtag: #fittyfoodliciouseats I love seeing my recipes in your kitchens!
Happy Fall and cheers to all things pumpkin!
With love,
