I would like to take a moment and honor summer. I can't believe we are already at the tail end of August and that Labor Day is here in just a few more days! I'm sure you guys need all of the Labor Day recipes for all of your festivities so I've created these three easy, delicious, appetizers that star figs and are super easy and fun to make!
Did you know a 100 gram serving of fresh figs contain 1.3 grams of protein and 2.2 grams of fiber? Figs are rich in minerals such as iron, potassium, calcium, copper, and magnesium. Figs are also a good source of vitamin A, K, and E which all contribute to good mental health! Dried figs are an easy snack for a post trail run or heavy weightlifting session. They can be taken in a reusable baggie on the go, so you never have to worry about not having a healthy snack on hand.
For today's recipe, I've used fresh Tiger Figs and show you guys how to make them three ways. Have a dinner party coming up? Or perhaps you want an easy, appetizer night? Pick up some fresh Tiger Figs and get ready to whip up these three easy figalicious appetizers! You can use regular figs too. These appetizers will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. If you want to make these ahead of time, I suggest adding the balsamic glaze and the EVOO mixture not until right before you serve these appetizers ensuring they don't get too soggy.
We have three easy fig appetizers! The first one is Kumato tomatoes with fresh slices of mozzarella and tiger figs with a bed of fresh basil. Sounds yummy just thinking about it! The second appetizer we have is a fig Caprese salad! And the third one is salami fig bites. All of these take less than 10-minutes to make and store well in the fridge.
You will need tiger figs or regular figs. You will also need balsamic glaze (this is one of my favorite and new to me products from Trader Joe's!) Don't worry, an updated My Favorite's Things from Trader Joe's post is hitting the blog soon! You will also need some high-grade extra virgin olive oil. I used the California EVOO because it's richness in taste and it's a thicker version of EVOO which is better for all that yummy drizzle! You will also need fresh mozzarella, fresh organic basil, salami (completely optional if you are vegetarian) and fresh tomatoes. For these appetizers, I've used Kumatos which are a darker, more zesty tomatoe. They are so good! Trader Joe's currently has these in stock, but pick them up soon because they sell out fast!
That's it! Here at Fitty Foodlicious, I try to incorporate minimal, fresh ingredients that you can come back to again and again!
