I remember the first time I had frozen hot chocolate like it was yesterday. I was 16-years-old in New York City visiting NYU's acting school and staying with a much older friend who I admired greatly. We met while teaching swimming at Daca Swim School and I remember being in total awe of her. To me, she had a perfect life and I wanted to live in New York so badly and be cool and independent and on my own. She was kind enough to let me stay with her and hosted me during my very first time in New York City.

It was an amazing experience that I'll never forget. One, in particular, is the first time I visited the infamous cafe Serendipity. I went to New York the summer after the movie Serendipity came out and I was completely obsessed with that movie! Do you guys remember it?!

In fact, it's still one of my favorites to this day! I remember walking into the cafe and my friend requested that we sit in the same chairs Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack sat in upstairs. The waiter didn't even have to ask because he knew we were ordering two frozen hot chocolates. My eyes lit up when those cups of heaven arrived at our table. I was literally the kid in the candy store and beyond excited! Now, keep in mind, this is all before Instagram and Facebook (wow, totally dating myself here) so there were no phones to distract us from being in the moment. I enjoyed every last sip of that delicious frozen hot chocolate and I remember thinking, I need to make this stuff at home!

Flash forward years later, and here I am. A health and wellness blogger with that same distinct love for frozen hot chocolate. So, I've come up with own healthy-ish version of this delicious drink that I think you guys will really enjoy! Now, this is made with organic ice cream, but if you are dairy-free everything here can be subbed out. The ice cream for coconut milk ice cream if you prefer. I do use Coconut/Almon milk in this recipe which I find makes is creamy enough, but if you want it extra, extra creamy, use heavy whipping cream! If you are a chocolate lover, this is going to be your new favorite drink that can be made any time of the year, but I find right around the corner to Christmas is the best time!

I've also added some protein to this drink by using Vital Protein's Dark Chocolate and Blackberry Collagen (which you guys know is my one of my favorite's from Vital Protein.) The Blackberry and chocolate collagen add's extra flavor and a nice collagen boost, but it's certainly not required to make my frozen hot chocolate. I've added some coconut sugar instead of regular sugar, which I find gives it added sweetness without overpowering the cocoa flavor. Everyone prefers different levels of sweetness so you be the best judge of this. Add more if you like it super sweet, add less if you don't.

This is a super flexible and customizable recipe that's a lot of fun to make! Get creative with it and add some essential oils in like peppermint or lavender! And most importantly, have fun! Tis the season for all of the yummy hot cocoa drinking!

I hope you guys enjoy this fun, easy recipe! Comment below and let me know your favorite ways to have hot chocolate.

Your recipe looks great! Is the one cup of sugar a typo? Just seems like an awful lot of sugar for two drinks (1/2 cup per person) lol. I'd get sugar coma for sure.

        Hi Sadie,
Thanks for your comment. The recipe calls for 6-servings of Frozen Hot Chocolate, so really not much sugar at all per person. 🙂 Also, this recipe uses Coconut Sugar which is way less damaging to the body than refined sugar.
