FEBRUARY IS HEART HEALTH MONTH
February is heart health month! Did you know that Mazola Corn Oil is an all-purpose, cholesterol-free cooking oil that is a smart heart-healthy* choice for your family. A clinical study showed Mazola Corn Oil reduces cholesterol 2x more than extra virgin olive oil.
To learn more about this claim, visit Mazola.com. See Mazola.com for more information on the relationship between corn oil and heart health. It has a variety of uses include baking, grilling, sautéing, stir-frying or mixing up a marinade or dressing.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT COOKING OIL MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE
Mazola makes a wonderful cooking oil because it has a high smoke point of 450°F and performs well in a variety of cooking applications like grilling, sauteeing, and stir-frying which is why we are using it for this easy recipe! Many home cooks may not realize that if you exceed the high smoke point, you risk losing a lot of flavor in the foods. If you stick to the correct smoke point, your food keeps all of the flavors.
Did you know that the American Heart Association encourages a healthy fats diet versus a low-fat diet? This includes replacing saturated fats that are known to contribute to heart disease with unsaturated fats, especially polyunsaturated fats, like those in Mazola Corn Oil.
A FUN AND FRESH TWIST ON A CLASSIC DISH
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner and February being heart health month, it’s important that we keep our tickers healthy and happy. That’s why I’ve created this easy and delicious heart-healthy recipe featuring Mazola® Corn Oil. My Better for You Chicken and Veggies Stir Fry Bowls can be made in under thirty minutes is a delicious and quick meal any night of the week! Made with chicken, fresh veggies like broccoli, snap peas, bell peppers, carrots, sauteed in Mazola® Corn Oil and placed over a bed of Jasmin rice. These stir fry bowls are for sure going to be a healthier recipe that the entire family will love!
My Better for You Chicken and Veggies Stir Fry bowls are a healthier twist on traditional stir fry dishes. Everything is sauteed in Mazola Corn Oil and nothing is fried. Rather than using tons of various oils in this recipe, the only oil I use is Mazola Corn oil. We sautee the veggies for a few minutes to keep their crunch and the chicken is marinated in delicious spices and teriyaki sauce. In traditional teriyaki stir fry recipes, sugar is used, but instead, I’ve swapped the sugar and use honey instead. A healthier twist on a classic recipe!
FRESH VEGGIES AND YUMMY CHICKEN HAS THE KEY TO MY HEART
Let’s dive into the details of how to make these delicious stir fry bowls! First, thinly slice the chicken breasts and place them in a bowl. Chop two cloves of garlic. Add the chopped garlic, Himalayan sea salt, black pepper, paprika, and onion salt over the chicken. Toss the chicken to coat it well. In a saute pan, place 2-tablespoons of Mazola Corn Oil and bring to medium heat. Add in the chicken and cook the chicken in the Mazola Corn Oil until the chicken is no longer pink in the middle. Next, add the teriyaki sauce to the chicken and simmer on low for 5 minutes.
Cook the Jasmin rice according to package directions and then move onto the veggies. While the chicken is simmering, cook the veggies. In another sauté pan or a stir fry pan, add in 2-tablespoons of Mazola Corn Oil. One by one, begin sautéing the veggies. Once the veggies have sautéed for 4-minutes, add in the chicken and the teriyaki sauce. Sauté everything together for 10-minutes.
Remove the stir fry from heat. Place a bed of Jasmin rice in bowls and layer the chicken and veggies stir fry over the jasmine rice. Top with fresh cilantro and sesame seed. This stir fry makes wonderful leftovers and will keep in airtight, glass containers for up to 3-days.
