I've always been a firm believer that we can truly get all of our nutrients from food. I've always thought that what comes from the ground and from the land will naturally give us all the nutrients we need.
That is until I found collagen and I realized that there are some supplements that we cannot strictly get from food alone. I started taking collagen two years ago and I can honestly say my life has changed for the better ever since! My skin is clearer, my hair and nails grow super fast, and my energy levels are fantastic throughout the day. Collagen and Beef Gelatin are two supplements I take daily. I add them both to my bulletproof coffee and not only does the collagen make my coffee nice and frothy, but it gives me an added protein boost too. Extra protein for me is essential since I do not eat a lot of meat.
This brings me to my next favorite supplement which is iron. I have fibroids and very heavy periods and taking iron is essential for my overall well-being. Iron is a much-needed vitamin, especially for women and even more so for women trying to conceive like me.
Iron is an important component of hemoglobin, the substance in red blood cells that carries oxygen from your lungs to transport it throughout your body and when you don't have enough of it, your body doesn't have the ability to create proper levels of hemoglobin. If you find yourself feeling low energy or having dizzy spells throughout the day, it is vital to get your iron levels tested to make sure you are not anemic. Anemia is also associated with anxiety disorders, so if you are feeling anxious throughout the day, be sure and get those levels tested!
One of my favorite supplements to take is Omega-3's. I have to be honest, prior to this year I was really skeptical about taking anything with fish, as it's not something I ever consume in my daily diet. Then I started taking a daily Omega-3 and now I'll never turn back.
I love how clear my skin it and how taking a daily omega has been shown to reduce the size of fibroids. Omegas are also a wonderful addition to your vitamin regimen if you are wanting to get pregnant as our bodies need those nutrients. Omega fatty acids have also been shown to reduce inflammation in the body and help prevent heart disease. They are the good type of fat that can ward off depression, dementia, as well as arthritis according to a peer study done by students of Harvard University.
Pre-natal's are something all women should take daily, but especially so if you are trying to conceive. I've been taking prenatal's for about two months and I already notice a change in my energy levels. I don't get that awful energy lull at the end of the day.
Make sure to find a pre-natal with folate vs. folic acid as not everyone can process folic acid. You can get a blood test done by your doctor to find out if your body is unable to process folic acid.
I also take beef liver tablets daily. Did you know that American diets are lacking in the essential Vitamin B-12? If you are feeling low throughout the day, find yourself craving lots of meat, or if you do not consume a lot of meat, taking beef liver may be a good option. Not only does it have the daily required dose of B-12, but it's also filled with Vitamin-A which is wonderful for our skin and heart.
Spirulina is another wonderful option if you want to up your Vitamin-A intake. Spirulina is a wonderful detoxifier for the body and helps keep you regular. I also take a daily probiotic to give my gut the healthy bacteria it needs to keep everything movin and groovin if you know what I mean. 😉
Why we need Vitamin-D: If you live in colder climates, you may want to consider adding in Vitamin-D supplement into your diet. Studies have shown that even American's who live in warmer climates are lacking in Vitamin-D due to spending lots of time indoors. Here are some ways you can get more Vitamin-D naturally. Opt outside! One of the easiest ways to get the daily dose of Vitamin-D your body needs is to spend at least thirty minutes outside, morning sunshine if best for this. Did you know that getting morning sunshine can restore your biorhythms and help you sleep better? If opting outside more isn't an option, consider supplementing with a Vitamin-D supplement. Having ample levels of Vitamin-D in your body can help keep depression and anxiety at bay. It's also an essential vitamin for cancer prevention, having a healthy pregnancy, and maintaining healthy bones. People who are lacking in Vitamin-D are at a higher risk for colon cancer according to a peer study review done by nutritionists at Arizona State University. So get outside and get that daily does of sunshine! Your body will thank you for it!
Do you guys take daily supplements? If so, which ones do you take? If not, which ones are you thinking about taking or want more information on?

Wow. My comment was deleted. How sad. Almost as sad as buying Instagram followers. I just skimmed your account. How can you have 5k plus followers and only have 40-50 likes per post? You bought fake followers. I found about 30. Sad. 😑

I´ve never felt better:D Also, you´re such a beautiful soul, don´t let those haters bring you down:) I like this quote: Don´t care about people who talk behind your back, they´re behind you for a reason.
Best wishes from Germany:D

Hi! I saw that you are writing a paleo cookbook?? I had NO IDEA you were paleo as the recipes you post aren't. How long have you been eating paleo and what kind of recipes can we expect?
Genevieve Jerome
Hi Kristy,
Thanks for your comment! I actually ate Paleo the entire time I was on my 155-pound weight-loss journey. And no, my blog isn't exclusively Paleo, but it does have Paleo friendly recipes throughout, just hit that search bar. The book will be filled with easy recipes for busy people. I can't say much more about it, but it's going to be wonderful for Paleo newbies! Much love!
