BRING THE COFFEEHOUSE HOME
I take the books off the shelf and dust them off one by one, staring at each title in bewilderment. These books. So many books. And this is only half of the collection I had this time last year, I think to myself.
Some of these titles have traveled with me from the time I moved out of my mom’s house to college and have travelled with me in every house I’ve lived in.
These dusty books have been with me through the amazing and tough times.
RELEASE THE CLUTTER AND LET IT GO
I’ve always loved books. Real books. I tried the Kindle movement for a day and didn’t like it. I love touching real books. Having something to feel and hold and stash away in a tote bag for beach days or in the car for long road-trips. I firmly believe a good book can go a long way.
The New Year always forces me to take a look at all of the things we have accumulating in our home. I started watching Tidying Up, you know that show on Netflix by Marie Kondo. And speaking of books, Marie’s method is rather genius. Discard what no longer gives you joy. Keep only what makes you happy.
I’ll admit it, I bought her book two years ago and used some parts of it, but the others I never followed through on. Then, when I saw Marie’s show come up in my suggested list on Netflix, I decided to read the book again and actually do everything Marie suggests.
And I mean everything. No matter how long it takes me, I’ve been going through every room in house, item-by-item, thing-by-thing.
Whew! It’s been hard. Who knew discarding items that no longer brings me joy could be so difficult? Turns out, it not easy letting books go.
I’ve kept the gold star books, you know the ones that you simply cannot live without. Everything else? I’m either selling or donating them.
When we let go of things that no longer bring us joy, according to Marie, we are inviting new experiences our way.
WHAT’S ON YOUR BUCKET LIST THESE DAYS?
I could really use some new experiences so I’m going in full throttle and working on my house and each chapter as the book instructs. As far as this project goes? I’ve gotten through the kitchen (that only took two days) now, I’m on my office and I just finished sorting through the books.
The rest of the office has taken me over three days to do and I’m still not finished. I have high hopes that it will be done by the end of this week and when I enter my office, I will only see things that spark immense joy. Who am I kidding? Bills are never going to spark joy.
If you are on an annual purge like I am, you’ll need a warm drink, especially in these cold winter months. Golden Milk or otherwise known as a Turmeric Latte, is a delicious option when you want something warm and frothy, but without the caffeine.
Although, you could add a shot of espresso to this recipe as it makes a beautiful morning drink. If you prefer decaf, Swiss coffee makes a wonderful option too.
TURMERIC IS A POWERFUL HEALING HERB FOR THE BODY
Turmeric is such a beneficial spice for a healthy body. Turmeric when taken properly with black pepper or fat, can help detoxify the body, aide in proper elimination, as well as help with inflammation in the body.
Turmeric is also good for issues arising from sports injuries or muscle overuse. Make sure you consult with your doctor or naturopath if you have any questions on the benefits of taking turmeric on a daily basis.
For my version of a Golden Milk Latte, I first combined spices such as star anise, whole cloves, and allspice. I did this by combining a few teaspoons of the whole spices in a food processor and make my own spice mix.
This is a wonderful option for having your own prepared spice mixtures on hand. It’s actually easier than you think too!
All you have to do is go the bulk spice bins at your local grocery stores and buy your spices in bulk. You’ll save money and have fun in the process!
MAKE THIS GOLDEN MILK WEEKLY TO REAP ALL OF THE BENEFITS
I make the above spice combo once a week, as I love to add star anise, cloves, and allspice to my bulletproof coffee and golden milk lattes.
For the milk portion of the golden milk latte, it’s really up to you. Everyone has different tastes when it comes to their dairy or non-dairy option.
My suggestion is to use the creamiest milk option possible. If you are dairy-free, any nut like will suffice in this recipe, but if I had to pick one, I would choose coconut milk for the creamiest, dairy-free option.
I use powered turmeric for this recipe, but you could also use whole turmeric that you can buy at the grocery store. If you use whole turmeric you should only need about ¼ of a peeled and wash piece.
Whichever turmeric option you choose, powered or fresh, make sure you also add in some black pepper or a fat such as cacao butter or coconut butter so that your body absorbs the turmeric more efficiently.
I also added in a scoop of collagen peptides to give the latte the foam factor and an added protein boost.
This Golden drink will bring a glow to your face and the warm and fuzzies to your soul. It’s extra amazing right before sleep, so make a giant cup tonight, draw yourself a bath, read a good book, and put your worries away.

All my love,

- 1-tablespoon of coconut butter
- Freshly ground black peppercorns

Instructions:
How to cook Spiced Golden Milk Latte
- Set a small saucepan over low heat. Add the coconut milk, honey, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon sticks, various spices, coconut butter, and collagen peptides, and whisk until combined.
- Add the pinch of black pepper and whisk again until combined.
- Bring to a low simmer. Do not let it come to a boil as it will curdle the milk. Simmer on low, stirring occasionally, for 10-minutes.
- Remove from heat and remove the cinnamon sticks.
- To make it frothy, blend the prepared drink in the blender for one-minute, pour into mugs, add additional cinnamon sticks and more spices. Garnish with edible rose petals (optional) Serve.
