Easy Homemade Dog Food for Allergies

    • Organic chicken breasts: Chicken can be a beneficial addition to a dog's diet due to its high protein content and essential nutrients. Chicken is lean protein source, crucial for muscle development and repair, and easily digestible. Chicken provides vitamins like B-vitamin which is crucial for immune support, muscle repair, and brain development.
    • Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Refrain from using processed oils when cooking for your pups. No sunflower, vegetable oil or any seeds oils. Instead, opt for organic EVOO ( extra virgin olive oil) or coconut oil, or beef tallow. These all make fantastic cooking oil options and are gut-friendly to your best friend.
    • Broccoli: Broccoli is a good source of vitamins C and K, fiber, and antioxidants, helps with bone density, and digestion. Broccoli's high fiber content can also help with weight management and helps keep a dog's immune system in top form.
    • Carrots: Have you ever heard the phrase, the carrot is in the eye of the beholder? It's because carrots are a powerhouse for our eyes and our pup's are no exception. Carrots help maintain eye health, help in aiding in longevity, and are a major fiber producer keeping pup's happy and regular!
    • Eggs: Eggs are a highly underrated nutient for dogs. Eggs are full of choline, essential for a dogs eyes and coat. Eggs help keep dogs skin itchiness down, the egg yolk helps to moisten their skin and coats. Eggshells contain phosphorus which is critical when feeding dogs a homemade dog food diet.
    • Chicken or beef bone broth: Check out my full dog-friendly bone broth recipe Bone broth is packed with gelatin which has glucosamine and chondroitin to helps dogs joints stay juicy and mobile. Bone broth also helps with a pup's gut lining and keeps their gut biome in check. The amino acids and minerals in bone broth help keep a dogs immune system in top form.

How to Food Prep Easy Homemade Dog Food for Allergies

    • For the food prep option: You can section off the prepared allergy-friendly dog food into 1-cup portions BEFORE cooking and add them to BPA-free freezer Ziplock bags and store them in the freezer until you are ready to cook them. You can freeze this homemade allergy-friendly dog food for up to one year.
    • Cooking first option: Cook the food according to the above recipe directions and then divide into proper portion size based on your dog's age and weight. I divide this dog food into 1-cup portions before adding to each Ziplock bag. These will keep in the fridge for up to one week.

    • Sources of Protein: Ground chicken or lean ground turkey is another fantastic option for the protein portion of this homemade dog food. You can also opt for fatter meats like lean ground beef, bison, or even ground lamb. All of these make a wonderful protein option for pup's who have allergies.
    • Fiber: Add TONS of veggies. I mean it, the more veggies the better! I usually add in fresh bell peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, yellow squash, pumpkin puree, cranberries, blueberries, strawberries, celery and a starch like sweet potatoes. Refrain from using garlic and onion as those can harm your dog. Garlic in VERY small amount is safe, but it depends on the dog breed and size so I say avoid it to be safe.
    • Bone Broth: Make a big batch of my homemade bone broth and use it as a topper. Dogs LOVE it!
    • Greek Yogurt: Prebiotic and probiotics are not only important for us, but they are super important for your dogs as well. I always add a scoop of whole milk or low fat Greek yogurt to my dog's food. They eat it right up and I know their guts are happy.

    Tips!

    • Dogs won't eat their veggies? Add a dollop of Beef Tallow to their bowls, I promise there food will be gone before you know it!
    • Let cool before serving. Stash in the fridge so the food cool's down before you give it to your babies. Their tongues cannot handle heat like ours can.
    • Add as much fiber as possible to double this recipe. Add a second protein too, mix it up! That way, your pup's won't get bored.
    • Grains typically are an allergy in dogs culprit. Never feed dogs corn or pasta. Rice can also cause a major itch factor. Best to avoid if your dogs truly have allergies. Protein and fiber is always best. Hello Keto Dog! 😉
    • Fish oils are a great for dogs. Know where they are sourced from, I cannot emphasize that enough. Here are some of my favorite brands. Fish oils help with eyesight, teeth, skin and coat, and help with gut biome.
    • We feed our dogs food in ceramic dog bowls. The less plastic they are exposed too, the better.

Can I feed my dogs homemade dog food every day like rice carrots beef and broccoli instead of store bought dog food?

We all know now that conventional dog food is becoming less popular and is not the way to go. Conventional or processed dog food is full of fillers like corn and soy, and chicken meal, and who know what those "meats" really are. Homemade dog food and fresh is best! It's work yes, but you are adding years and longevity to your best friends life and isn't that what it's all about?

Does a grain free diet help with skin sensitivities and allergies in dogs?

Absolutely! Grain can wreck havoc on a dog's immune system causing it to overwork and thus causing terrible skin allergies. Also, processed dog food turns to sugar in your dog's stomach so all that sugar is going into your dog's bloodstream. A grain free, high protein, high fiber diet can help a dog lose weight and alleviate their allergy symptoms or even become allergy free.

You read my pups mind (and tummy) didn't you? She's had itchy ears and a super sensitive tummy for ages, no matter if I buy even the most luxurious dog foods. This home cooked food finally settled her issues. Thanks for this recipe!
