We all need a little chocolate in our lives in my opinion and I certainly eat something chocolatey weekly. I had banana's lying around on the counter on their last legs the other day and thought, chocolate banana bread would be really good right about now. So I whipped up a batch and this bread turned out great! It's super moist, thick, chewy, and has just the right amount of sweetness to it. There are no refined sugars in this bread so you don't have to worry about having a sugar crash later. If you wanted to add a little bit of a flavor kick to the bread you could had chunky sea-salt to the top and that would make the bread taste like chocolate sea-salt cookies. To keep the banana bread moist, make sure you add melted coconut to it so that it doesn't get dried out when baking.
Be patient with the baking as it takes some time. I bake this chocolate banana bread for 50-minutes at 350-degrees. Just let it bake the correct amount of time and you'll have delicious, chocolaty banana bread in no time. If you like your banana bread dryer, bake it for about 10-15 minutes longer.
If you are gluten-free you could sub almond flour for this recipe, but if you do that make sure you double the amount of coconut oil you use or your bread will come out super dry and we don't want that.
I used Guittard baking chocolate chips for this recipe because there is no soy in them and they have the best flavor in my opinion. Whatever brand you choose, make sure you use a soy-free brand.
This recipe goes well with fresh banana slices and a fresh cup of coffee. You could also warm it up, add some banana slices, syrup, and fresh whip cream to it and make this a banana fosters banana bread french toast (another recipe that's hitting the blog soon!)
What kinds of things do you guys like to have with your banana bread? Coffee? Tea? Do you like to slather it with some fresh grass-fed butter? Comment below and tell me.
